Science and Nonduality (SAND) with Maurizio Benazzo

Awake 2 Oneness Radio with Conference Co-Founder and Organizer Maurizio Benazzo on Friday, August 23, 2019 at 7:00 PM EDT. This program has been pre-recorded. Click here to listen to the show on BlogTalk Radio. Or click here to watch the show on YouTube.

When Maurizio and Zaya met in 2008, it immediately became apparent that they could make a lot of noise together in this illusory world. They discovered that the only book they had both been reading for the past several years was “I Am That” by Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj.

Maurizio was brought up in Italy and went through many different incarnations, always looking for answers under every stone. In 1986, he came to the USA on a 98-year-old sailing boat. He started working as an actor, model, and then filmmaker, but his thirst for knowledge was never satisfied, until he encountered, “I Am That” in 2001 while shooting the documentary “Short Cut to Nirvana” in India.

Zaya hails from Bulgaria and has degrees in Engineering, Environmental Science, and also Film. For many years, she worked as an environmental activist in Holland and Bulgaria. She later produced and directed several award-winning documentaries in Europe and the United States. Her lifelong passion for science and mysticism finally came together with the emergence of the conference.

Together, Zaya and Maurizio grow their own garden and still read “I Am That”, along with Scientific American. Zaya has a beautiful son that brings joy to the couple and to everyone around them.

Science and Nonduality (SAND) is a community inspired by timeless wisdom, informed by cutting-edge science, and grounded in direct experience. We come together in an open-hearted exploration while celebrating our humanity.

With the Scientific Revolution, empirical discoveries began to undermine religious doctrine, and tension grew between those who sought truth through rational inquiry based on observation and those who accepted the authority of various religious dogmas. The mission of Science and Nonduality (SAND) is to forge a new paradigm in spirituality, one that is not dictated by religious dogma, but that is rather based on timeless wisdom traditions of the world, informed by cutting-edge science, and grounded in direct experience.

If our civilization is to be saved from its own excesses, it is urgent to answer the longing of those with a deep spiritual intuition who cannot find their way through a religious world so alienated from the contemporary mind. It is vital to give birth to spiritual paths which are fully compatible with a modern view of the world.

SAND honors and nurtures the exploration and experience of Nonduality as a pathway to greater wisdom and well-being in the context of the unique challenges of the 21st century. SAND is inspired to develop a vibrant community of individuals who share this vision. We believe the time is right for fragmentation to give way to a new integrative paradigm in which science and spirituality re-enter into meaningful dialogue and start bridging an empirically responsible and non-dogmatic spirituality with a humanistic science willing to consider questions of context, perception, meaning and purpose.
